What Is an APN and How Do I Update It?

If you’re using a Firsty eSIM, your mobile data connection should work seamlessly. However, in some cases, you may need to update your APN (Access Point Name) settings to ensure a smooth internet connection.

In this guide, we’ll explain what an APN is, how it works, and how you can update your APN settings on iPhone and Android.

What Is an APN?

APN stands for Access Point Name. It acts as a gateway between your mobile carrier's network and the internet. Your phone uses the APN to determine how to connect to a mobile data network.

When you use mobile data, your APN helps your device establish a connection by providing essential details such as:

  • The IP address your device should use.

  • The network type (e.g., 4G, 5G).

  • The security settings required to connect.

📌 If your APN settings are incorrect, your mobile data may not work, or your connection may be slow.

When Should You Update Your APN Settings?

For most users, APN settings are automatically configured when you install your Firsty eSIM. However, you may need to update your APN settings if:

Your mobile data is not working after activating your eSIM.
Your internet speed is slower than expected.
You switched networks manually and need new APN settings.

💡 If your Firsty eSIM is working correctly, you do not need to change your APN settings.

How to Find and Update Your APN Settings

📱 On iPhone:

1⃣ Open Settings.
2⃣ Tap Cellular (or Mobile Data).
3⃣ Select your Firsty eSIM.
4⃣ Tap Cellular Network (or Mobile Data Network).
5⃣ Locate the APN field and enter the correct settings (if required).
6⃣ Leave all other fields blank unless otherwise instructed.

Do Firsty eSIMs Require APN Changes?

For most Firsty users, APN settings are automatically set when installing the eSIM. However, if your mobile data isn’t working, you can check your APN details in the Firsty App’s Support Section.

💡 If APN settings are required for your connection, Firsty will provide you with the necessary details.

Troubleshooting APN Issues

If updating your APN settings doesn’t resolve your issue, try these steps:

1⃣ Toggle Airplane Mode ON and OFF – This forces your phone to reconnect to the network.
2⃣ Restart Your Phone – A simple reboot can refresh your connection.
3⃣ Enable Data Roaming – Firsty eSIM requires Data Roaming to be turned ON.
4⃣ Reset Network Settings – This can fix persistent connectivity issues.

📌 How to reset network settings:

  • iPhone: Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

  • Android: Settings > System > Reset Options > Reset WiFi, Mobile & Bluetooth.
